Friday 11th October 2019

Join saké expert Honami, head of marketing for Keigetsu, for an extraordinary food paired event at Ballymaloe House in celebration of this Japanese staple and ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2019 and the Olympic Games 2020 being held in Japan. We are thrilled to be bringing a taste of Japan to East Cork.

Saké is much more than just a hot spirit served with Japanese food.  On this evening Honami will introduce the first of 5 sakés during a canapé reception and introduce guests to the process and histsory of saké making. How the 'polishing of rice' determines the different varieties and our head chef, Dervilla O'Flynn will be devising an especially paired menu to enhance the experience of the subsequent 4 sakés you will be tasting... who knew that saké can also be (1) sparkling (2) cold (3) sweet - Yuzusake... which is a citrus saké and (4) natural.. yes, saké too is turning to natural / biodynamic varieties.

There is so much to learn and taste, and the evening will be an exceptionally unique opportunity to experience this extraordinary traditional Japanese spirit from the experts.  You'll be experts yourself if you are visiting Japan for upcoming sporting events, or you might get a taste for it, and be ordering some yourself, so that you can toast our competitiors with the host countries local liquor knowledgeably from your own home.

Keigetsu saké is imported to Ireland by Irish wine company Liberty Wines

This is just a 'taste' of what's to come, the menu and more importantly the price will be online shortly but if you're interested please save the date... Friday 11th October.  The evening will start at 6.30pm.  Booking in advance will be essential and places are limited.
