As we bid farewell to 2023, we take a moment to reflect on the remarkable year at Ballymaloe House Hotel; a year marked by achievements, accolades, and enriching collaborations. Here’s a snapshot of some highlights from the past year:
January: We kicked off the year with annual renovations. We showcased our commitment to sustainability by crafting our entrance hall and bar floor from repurposed Jameson Whiskey barrels. Additionally, we proudly become the first Irish hotel to be part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Considerate Collection promoting biodiversity and sustainable travel.
February: Earning a place on the prestigious Irish Independent lists – ‘Fab 50 Places to Stay’ and ‘Hot 100 Ireland’s Best Hotels’ - reaffirmed Ballymaloe’s reputation as a sanctuary of timeless charm and unparalleled hospitality.
March: Our dedication to sustainable practices was recognised with the ‘Best Sustainable Business Innovation Award 2023’ from the Cork Business Association and the regional winner for ‘Best Hotel and Guesthouse Restaurant 2023’ from the Cork from the Irish Restaurant Awards.
April: Celebrations continued with accolades like ‘Best Hotel in Ireland’ by the Good Hotel Guide and ‘Culinary Haven of the Year’ by Good Food Ireland.
May: For the 9th consecutive year, in collaboration with a prominent local art curator Richard Scott, we unveiled a captivating outdoor sculpture exhibition, transforming our grounds into an artistic canvas for the summer. The exhibition was launched by Cllr. Michael Hegarty and Virgin Media journalist Zara King.
June: Our picturesque poolside setting caught the attention of Ciara McQuillan from the Irish Times, spotlighting us among Ireland’s standout hotels with a unique outdoor swimming experience.
July: Head Pastry Chef JR Ryall, dazzled at the renowned Fortnum & Mason in London, for a special event following the success of his cookbook - ‘Ballymaloe Desserts’.
August: We embarked on a visual journey, through a debut video named, ’24 Hours at Ballymaloe’, capturing a couple on a relaxing getaway to Ballymaloe House Hotel.
September: As a proud member of Ireland’s Blue Book since 1974, we were prominently featured on the cover of their 2024 Golden Edition brochure.
October: Good Hotel Guide bestowed upon us the ‘Best Hotel in Ireland 2024’ award, further amplified by a prestigious Ceasar Award 2024. Additionally, in a delightful collaboration with J Crew x Care of Chan, a confluence of fashion and hospitality, we hosted J Crew and 14 leading US influencers for an exquisite photoshoot, garnering widespread media attention.
November: The festive spirit was in full swing with the Ballymaloe Craft Fair marking the official start of the Christmas season in East Cork. The craft fair gained recognition from RTE as a premier Christmas market in Ireland.
December: A highlight of the year was our feature in Goop’s Gift Guide, emphasizing our dedication to exceptional experiences and sustainability. This recognition placed us in an esteemed company among other top-tier luxury brands, drawing significant media buzz.
Looking ahead, 2024 promises to be a monumental year, as we commemorate 60 years since Myrtle and Ivan Allen opened Ballymaloe House. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support and wish all our patrons and media a happy, peaceful, and prosperous 2024.
Warm regards,
